Hot off the CD burner at Knock Studios, copies of the newly released Giraffic Park were distributed to Jori and Innes, two local DJ’s at Isles FM and key movers in the latent, but soon to blossom, Stornoway music scene. Jori had also just started writing a weekly music column in the Stornoway Gazette so the band were keen to see if the CD would get a mention.

Come Gazette day, Wattie was surprised to open the paper to find a huge feature all about the band and the album. Jori had also included a full colour picture of the cover, giving the band the biggest amount of press coverage ever. Jori and Innes also championed DunRingle on their Isles FM shows, giving the band huge amounts of airplay.

'Soundtracks', the local record shop, run by Simon, (the best drummer in the Western Isles and member of Sign Red) also agreed to sell the CD and so DunRingle were most bemused to see Giraffic Park posters in the window and copies of the album filed under ‘ D’ in the racks in the shop.

The summer of 2003 was relatively quiet. The only major development was the decision to stage the 20th anniversary performance of the legendary Midges of Rock Festival. The MOR first started in 1981 and ran for three years to 1983, featuring the sour cream of AGOFR, including the Guireans and Zing Pop.

The renewed interest in AGOFR and the activities of DunRingle led to a desire to mark the 20th anniversary in suitable fashion. Plans were made over the summer to hold the Festival at a suitable date in August, when it was most convenient for the mainland based coves to come home. The Scout Hall was looked into as the venue (as this had been the spiritual home of the MOR in the past) but on the night in question the Ballet Club had beaten them to it. Instead, the various bands and audience members had to make do with Knock Studios.

At Xmas time 2003, DunRingle again took part in the annual AGOFR tribute to dead rock stars, along with members of the Guireans. Several moving tributes were recorded to the recently dead Johnny Cash and the not yet dead Barry Manilow.

Come 2004, DunRingle once again felt the urge to record a new CD. Buoyed up with the success of Giraffic Park, the band retreated to their secret Grimersta studio and began work on what would become The Four Chessmen.

Once again the band turned to the tried and tested formula of local subject matter. Shoe shops, Chessmen and Rooks all featured, as did various characters from the band's past. A greater knowledge of Cubase also meant a more professional approach to recording and mastering.

The Four Chessmen was released in April 2004. Once again, Jori very kindly featured the CD in his Gazette column and Jori and Innes, plus their Isles FM colleagues played tracks from it on a regular basis on the local radio. It was also album of the week in May 2004. Niall Iain from Rapal, the national Gaelic radio show, also played several tracks. Soundtracks again took on a stock of the CD’s, along with the special promotional Lyric Booklets.

In April, Jason and Wattie were asked to headline at a poetry event in An Lanntair by Niall from the Guireans. They played for about 30 minutes and featured several of the new songs from The Four Chessmen.

In October 04, the band were asked to record a song for a Honcho Records compilation CD of local Stornoway bands. Honcho Records is the label set up by Jori and Innes, and had released a couple of CD’s the previous year.

The band wrote a totally new song called Lewis Gothic (A Bedtime Story), a dark neo-gothic nightmare about a holiday Mary Shelly (the creator of Frankenstein’s Monster) once had to Lewis Castle College. The Honcho compilation, called 'Local Man Ruins Everything', hit the shops in New Year 05 and went on to great critical acclaim.

Advanced recording technology was now an everyday part of DunRingle life. With so many marvellous songs of the past available only as poor quality tape recordings, the band decided it was time to address the issue. Throughout late 2004 and 2005, a selection of the best loved songs from the seven DunRingle albums were re-recorded in high quality digital format. The album is called ' Re Dun', and has been available in the shop (Fonn) since early 2006.

So thats it. A rather long winded history of The Dun RingHills, who became Dun RingHill, who finally metamorphosed by accident into DunRingle.

The only question remaining unanswered at this point in time is 'what are DunRingle doing now?'. Well, glad you asked. They are recording another album of course !!

Hope you have enjoyed.
