The Dun RingHills were formed in the autumn of 1992. The four members, Jason, Robin, Wattie and Jon, already had long and distinguished musical careers in various Stornoway rock bands, such as Andromeda Crisis, Hieronymus Bosch, Electric Blue and Zing Pop.

Now, in the twilight of their youths, they felt it appropriate to form a new band to perform songs with a local and idiosyncratic slant. All the songs would be about local people, situations, events and places, and centred on the Isle Of Lewis in the Scottish Outer Hebrides

Jason, Wattie and Robin had worked on a number of songs during 1991, with a view to writing a rock opera called The Funky Peatstack. Despite writing such classics as Funky Peatstack and Peatman, the songs never progressed beyond rough demos.

A few impromptu gigs took place during 1992. Rampant Thrust (featuring Wattie and Jason) at Ardroil Beach in July and the Three Plonkers at Valtos in October (featuring Jon, Jason and Wattie). These gigs inspired the guys to start writing songs.

A vital component of this desire to be creative was the purchase of a proper drum machine. (Live drummers are all terminally insane !) A veritable El Nino of songs started flooding out of the four of them. Caught up in the creative rush, Jason and Wattie invested in a four track porta-studio and before they knew it, had written 10 or so songs.

Robin was press ganged into joining the band, and at Christmas 1992, they retreated to Knock Studios (the spare bedroom in Wattie and Jane’s house) and didn’t emerge until Vom Your Sproggans was complete.

The new songs were publicly aired in the Stornoway Scout Hall that December, at the first ever live Dun RingHills concert.

On hearing the album, inspired by such quirky brilliance, Jon forced his way into the band, bringing with him a suitcase full of new songs which were added to the bands ever growing list of original compositions.

Boke Your Drarsh, the bands second album, was written and recorded in Easter 1993, and featured the full line up of DunRingle as we know it today.
