The Clisham is the highest
peak on the Isle of Lewis and Harris. Perpetually shrouded in grey
cloud, its mysterious heather clad heights
have inspired song for millennia........well, it inspired Dun
Ringill...... not least because south of it lies the lands
of 'Na
Hearachean', loosely translated as 'The Harris Dwellers'.
Have you ever seen the film Deliverance?....'nuff
said!
Recorded in April 1997at the Valtos Outdoor Centre on the beautiful
west coast of Lewis, Dun Ringhill stocked up with food, drink
and Longbottom Leaf for a week, and produced this fine collection
of inspirational songs.
Some would say Dun Ringhill 'sold out' on this album, as it was
recorded on a Tascam 8 track recorder of fairly decent quality,
eschewing forever that
characteristic 'recorded in the garage with a few beers just after
a fish supper one Friday night' feel once enjoyed by Avant Gaelic
Obscurist
Folk
Rock.
DunRingle would disagree with this sentiment. Being able to hear
the detail of what they were recording for once was an uplifting
experience. Incredibly, you too can share in the experience. 'Clisham'
is the first DunRingle album that could be successfully digitised,
so click on the 'Play' buttons and enjoy !!
Once
more Jason painted a cover, this time depicting the band as sheep
on leads, being restrained by
the hand
of a buxom
warrior
maid wearing not much more than a bobban hat. Worrying!! |
