Buoyed up with the success of Giraffic
Park, 2004 saw DunRingle once again
inspired to write another album. In the newly established Grim Studios,
the band started
work
the new material that
would
ultimately become
'The
Four Chessmen.'
Then there is 'Das
Boot', a poignant
tale about an old leather boot, cruelly discarded after a lifetime
of dedicated loyalty to its owners feet. Lots of multi
tracked vocals on this one and a sizeable multi-part guitar solo
worthy of Brian May. 'At The Wheel' is a tribute to those
brave lorry drivers, who tackle the A9 and the Stornoway Ullapool
ferry on a regular basis to bring essential supplies to Lewis.
Impressive drumming, innit? We’d
all like to pretend that it was us playing it, but it’s
actually only a sample.
Many are aware of the strange
behaviour of the Rooks who live up on Gallows Hill overlooking
Stornoway. Come twilight they start swirling and swooping above
the town and
harbour.
So,
what are they doing I hear you ask? It’s a little known fact
that the Rooks are actually charged with the responsibility of
keeping a watchful eye over the town during the times of darkness.
Those brave Rooks keep an eye out for crooks, vandals and other
undesirables and so ensure that the inhabitants of Stornoway can
spend a restful slumber in safety. It's true !
A greater
knowledge
of Cubase has resulted in a more professional approach to recording
and mastering. Not truly AGOFR, but the results are staggering
!
